PLIABLE PLANES: EXPANDED TEXTILES & FIBRE PRACTICES +  SPECIAL TREAT OPENING NIGHT

Join us for a night of art and conversation in Fremantle, as following formalities we are offering a guided walk for those attending the opening of Fremantle Biennale.

Presenting work by twelve Australian artists who reimagine textiles and fibre art, Pliable Planes: Expanded Textiles and Fibre Practices is co-curated by Karen Hall and Catherine Woolley. The exhibition takes its title from a 1957 essay by celebrated Bauhaus artist Anni Albers who sought to rethink weaving through the lens of architecture, interpreting textiles as fundamentally structural and endlessly mutable.

New commissions and recent works will be shown by Akira Akira, Sarah Contos, Lucia Dohrmann, Mikala Dwyer, Janet Fieldhouse, Teelah George, Paul Knight, Anne-Marie May, John Nixon, Kate Scardifield, Jacqueline Stojanović, and Katie West.

We are also delighted to present Special Treat by Dionne Hooyberg, curated by Mariaan Pugh, a veritable ‘treat for the eyes’ that will run alongside Pliable Planes: Expanded Textiles and Fibre Practices.

Join us on opening night at a special earlier time of 5.00pm to allow for travel time to Fremantle Biennale’s opening night, First Lights at Bathers Beach.
