Skyuka

Known for her nakedly honest lyrics and electrifying stage presence, Skyuka’s music is a fusion of electro pop, indie and grunge, intertwined with soul vocals that melt into sweeping falsettos. Influenced by Banks, Amy Winehouse, Tame Impala and everything 90’s Skyuka’s live shows are genre diverse and emotionally rich. She is joined onstage by her brother (Token Friend) on guitar and a drummer (Jasper Emmitt Miller) who alternates between his live kit and drum pads to bring the electronic feels.

This year her song ‘Fade’ was nominated for a WAM SOTY award, and in June she was selected out of 120 artists to create an audio/visual installation titled ‘The Michael Cera Experience’ (after the release of her single ‘Michael Cera’) for Strange Festival in Perth’s CBD. Skyuka is currently working on an EP set to be released later this year.

Bad Weather

Local alt-pop act Bad Weather, influenced by the likes of The 1975, M83, James Ivy, Prince, Michael Jackson and Talking Heads, has been blending indie-emo vocals with 80s synth and guitar motifs for the past 3 years. Showing up to a gig in Bad Weather’s home town of Perth means witnessing the beaming faces in the front row, belting out their lyrics, aware of every cymbal crash and drum fill. Described by Triple J as “sunny, indie alt-pop goodness” Bad Weather’s sound is a fused crossover of genres, influenced by 80’s icons but with a modern twist.
