Respected local artist Susan Flavell (WA) presents a series of video portraits and ceramic sculptures investigating our relationships with dogs. Flavell exhibited at FAC ten years ago in a very successful solo exhibition of epic-scale human cardboard sculptures. This new exhibition intersects her life as a dog trainer and brings intense scrutiny to reading dogs’ facial features, expressions and moods. These animal portraits will look at the human-centred history of the gaze in portraiture.

"When Gypsy lies on her mat in the kitchen resting her head on her paws, and we are at the table, eating or talking, I sometimes wonder what goes on inside her head. Why do I wonder? Because, I think, we are struck by the mystery of animals, their otherness to us and to our lives."
