Gordon Koang is one of South Sudan’s biggest pop stars. A household name in his home region and often hailed as ‘the King of Music’, this blind refugee musician is taking the Australian music world by storm. After being award the prestigious Levis Music Prize at BIGSOUND 2019 he has just been nominated for five Music Victoria Awards, including Best Song, Best Solo Artist and Best Breakthrough Act.
Now music lovers can experience his wild blend of traditional Nuer rhythms and African pop beats at Sunday Music. Join Gordon Koang and his band as they spread a message of peace, love and unity – dancefloor style.
Pre-show Talk
Join us at 1:45pm for a special pre-show interview with Gordon and local hip hop artist and community leader Bella Ndayikeze. Born in Burundi, she spent seven years in a refugee camp in Tanzania before arriving in Australia. She is the Youth Programs Coordinator with the Edmund Rice Centre WA and works with young people across a range of platforms.
