As part of the 2018 Revealed program, Fremantle Arts Centre presents a very special screening of Warwick Thornton’s acclaimed film Sweet Country.

Inspired by real events, Sweet Country is a period western set in 1929 in the outback of the Northern Territory, Australia. In an act of self-defense Aboriginal stockman Sam (Hamilton Morris) kills white station owner Harry March (Ewen Leslie), forcing Sam and his wife Lizzie (Natassia Gorey-Furber) to go on the run.

Sergeant Fletcher (Bryan Brown) leads the search, intent on capturing Sam and putting him on trial for murder – but as an expert bushman, Sam has little difficulty in outlasting them. Eventually, for the health of his pregnant wife, Sam decides to give himself up. He’s put on trial, but will justice be served?

Don’t miss the chance to see this powerful story in the beautiful setting of FAC’s Front Garden. A number of short films by WA Aboriginal filmmakers will also be screened.
