Katie Breckon (NZ) is a multi-disciplinary artist who lives and works in WA’s remote Kimberley outback. She is currently undertaking a four-week residency at Fremantle Arts Centre during which she’s exploring three-dimensional sketching with thread. Breckon has been creating drawings people can walk through based on earlier sketches created at Bungarun Leprosy Hospital, near her home. The now-abandoned site marks a unique period of medical and community history and Breckon’s works evoke the peaceful yet haunting atmosphere of the site.
See the drawings for yourself and chat with Breckon about this project and her broader practice when she opens her studio on Fri 17 and Sat 18 Feb.
