FOCUS – First Nation FilmS
As a part of the City of Fremantle’s commitment to reconciliation, we are pleased to announce the next event as a part of the City’s Truth Telling program: FOCUS: First Nation Films
Over 2 Birak summer nights, join us under the stars in our scenic front garden to enjoy a selection of documentary feature and short films as part of City of Fremantle’s premier Indigenous focused film program.
This event will bring together a tapestry of films that focus on First Nation stories that speak to the impacts of colonisation and to the resilience and self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
With your host Ron Bradfield Jr, and special guest speakers including local film director & senior Indigenous researcher at Murdoch University Dr Glen Stasiuk, renowned cinematographer & director Allan Collins ACS, and one of Australia finest contemporary historical documentary makers Tom Murray , this considered and special weekend of free music, conversations and films is a unique opportunity not to be missed.

“The City of Fremantle’s First Nations film event is a rarity in an Australian film festival landscape that focusses on international cinema. We desperately need more events that focus, as Fremantle is doing, on the wealth of talent and ideas that have been emerging for some years now among First Nations filmmakers around the country: these films need more showcasing and celebrating! There is a high profile First Nations Film Festival in Paris, France: why not one at Fremantle!” – Andrew Pike, Ronin Films
