In partnership with Revelation Perth International Film Festival, UK artist duo Semiconductor – Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt – will be in Fremantle to discuss their captivating works Black Rain and Brilliant Noise, as well as their broader practice.
The pair will take part in a panel discussion, moderated by exhibition curator and Revelation Film Festival Program Director Jack Sargeant and joined by SymbioticA Director Oron Catts.
The panel will discuss the intersections of science and art.

Semiconductor
Semiconductor is UK artist duo Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt. They make visually and intellectually engaging artworks which explore the material nature of our world and how we experience it through the lens of science and technology, questioning how these devices mediate our experiences. Their unique approach has won them many awards and prestigious fellowships.
Jack Sargeant
As a curator and film programmer Jack Sargeant has worked on the Revelation Perth International Film Festival since 2007. He started curating film events in the 1990s, having already organized live music, performance art and fine art exhibitions since the late 1980s. Over the years he has been invited to curate at numerous festivals including the Brisbane International Film Festival, Chicago Underground Film Festival, New York Underground Film Festival, WNDX Winnipeg, the London Underground Film Festival and many others.
Oron Catts
Oron Catts is an artist, researcher and curator whose pioneering work with the Tissue Culture and Art Project which he established in 1996 is considered a leading biological art project. In 2000 he co-founded SymbioticA, an artistic research centre housed within the School of Anatomy, Physiology and Human Biology, The University of Western Australia. Under Catts’ leadership SymbioticA has gone on to win the Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica in Hybrid Art (2007) the WA Premier Science Award (2008) and became a Centre for Excellence in 2008. Catts interest is Life; more specifically the shifting relations and perceptions of life in the light of new knowledge and it applications.
