Join us for an Artist Talk, Q&A and catalogue launch with Melbourne-based artist Deanna Hitti and City of Fremantle Art Collection Curator Andre Lipscombe.
Deanna is in Perth to present her solo exhibition Object of the Game, a poignant investigation of Middle Eastern migrant identity, exploring the cultural significance of the ancient Lebanese boardgame of Towla (also known as backgammon).
The exhibition features her exquisite screenprinted book Towla – the winning entry for 2018 FAC Print Award – which sets out the rules of backgammon in the Arabic and Latin alphabet. It also includes an instructional audio-visual projection and in-gallery backgammon board, which audiences are invited to play.
After the artist talk and audience Q&A, Deanna and Andre will officially launch the Object of the Game catalogue, a 40-page, limited edition publication. Produced in both English and Arabic, the catalogue contains two essays, spectacular full-bleed photographs, plus a Towla board printed to scale and two counter sets, so you can grab a partner and play your own game at home.
On sale for a discounted rate at the event, each copy is numbered and signed by the artist.
Free entry, all welcome.
