About the class

Come to a relaxed studio session and make the most of the Fremantle Arts Centre’s beautiful and historic studios while exploring the joys of painting with acrylics.

Whether you're a beginner or more experienced creative, this class offers the perfect opportunity to improve your skills, develop your own style, and enhance your art practice.

Under the guidance of Leslee Rowlands, you’ll receive personalised support to help you tackle challenges, learn problem-solving strategies, and discover new ways to express your creativity.

Share ideas, receive feedback, and enjoy the flow of painting in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Canvas/boards and preparing surfaces will be discussed in the first class.

Prerequisites

Some painting experience is recommended but not essential.

What to bring

  • Acrylic paints - (Chromacryl/A2/Atelier/Matisse structure)
    • Titanium White
    • Warm Red - cadmium red or napthol scarlet
    • Cool Red - alizarine crimson or quinacridone red
    • Warm Blue - Ultramarine
    • Cool Blue - Phthalo blue
    • Warm Yellow - cadmium yellow medium or deep or arylamide yellow.
    • Cool Yellow - cadmium yellow light or arylamide yellow light or yellow light hansa or lemon yellow.
    • Optional colours are: magenta, viridian or phthalo green, yellow orchre and mars black
    • Please note: You will learn to mix all the colours you need with these 6 colours and white therefore you are encouraged to purchase good quality paints at the start.
  • 1 Note book
  • A Selection of acrylic brushes, round and flat (filbert) sizes 2, 4, 6, 8

  • Flat Palette or paper palette book

  • 2 x Palette knives

  • 2 x jars with lids

  • Clean rags

  • Apron

  • Canvas/boards and preparing surfaces will be discussed in the first class

Further materials may be required throughout the course.

Building Accessibility

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.

Tutor Leslee Rowlands

Leslee Rowlands is an Art educator with over 30 years of experience teaching students of all ages. Her aim is to offer a supportive learning environment in which the participants are inspired and can develop the confidence to explore and pursue their artistic side.
