About the class

Spend time creating a small-scale figurative or animal-based sculpture of your choice in this hands-on course with Dee.

Whether you're inspired by the resources provided in class or bring your own ideas, Dee will guide you through each stage of the creative process. In the first session, you'll learn how to generate ideas, develop a project plan, create a working sketch, and design templates. For those with more advanced skills, feel free to dive straight into clay construction.

Throughout the course, you’ll deepen your understanding of hollow form hand-building methods essential for ceramic sculpture. This includes working with armatures, moulds, and pre- and post-firing surface treatments.

At the end of the 8-week course, your final pieces will be fired. If you’d like, you can return for glazing session in Term 3. Alternatively, Dee will demonstrate cold firing techniques suitable for once-fired works, which can be applied at home or back with us in Term 3.

What to bring

  • A4 or A5 Visual diary or drawing journal for design and note taking
  • Pencils and pens for notetaking
  • Personal hand towel
  • Apron
