Portrait Drawing – The Basics (NEW!) with Rodney Sinclair

Drawing is a wonderful and rewarding endeavour and can be an art form in itself, or act as a beneficial adjunct to painting, and many other creative pursuits.

Under the guidance of tutor Rodney Sinclair, learn the fundamentals of Portrait Drawing from the ground up in this new course. Explore line, form, tonal values, structure, and anatomy in depth and incorporate the proper use of traditional mainstream materials such as graphite pencils, charcoal and conte crayons.

What to bring:-

  • Cartridge Paper: Heavyweight A3 size (pad or single sheets)
  • Pencils: Staedtler Tradition or Faber Castell HB, 2B, 4B & 6B
  • Charcoal: Willow charcoal, compressed charcoal (medium grade), charcoal pencil (medium grade)
  • Conte: Sticks of black, sanguine & white
  • Spray fixative
  • Erasers: Plastic eraser - Staedtler & Kneadable eraser - Faber Castell
  • A3 folio and some sheets of white tissue paper or butchers paper for storing drawings
  • Craft knife (small retractable type)
  • Sandpaper: Sheets/roll of fine grade (240 grit) & medium grade (150 grit)
  • Tissues
  • Masking tape
  • Other materials may be required across the course but will be discussed in class
