2017T2 Pinch, Coil & Slab – Handbuilding Techniques

Explore these three handbuilding techniques to choose your preferred building method. Make functional vessels such as trays, cups, plates, bowls or sculptural forms. Develop an understanding of clay forming and joining and learn how to attach feet, handles and lids. Decorative techniques will also be covered using colour, oxides and glaze.

Materials List

Students will need to bring:-

  • 1 x bag of Superior White Porcelain or Southern Ice (Potters Market)
  • Textured objects to press into clay e.g. lace, seed pods, shells, stamps etc
  • Cutting wire
  • A potters knife
  • Paint scraper plastic
  • 15-20ltr lidded container to store work, at least 30Hx30Wx40L
  • Hand cream
  • Notebook, pen
  • Towel
  • Apron
  • Further materials may be required throughout the course
  • All ceramic work made in class can be fired by Fremantle Arts Centre for a small fee
  • Students must wear closed-toe shoes for safety reasons
  • Please pay your materials fee at the first class
