Painting with Acrylics – Realism to Abstraction

An introduction to acrylic painting. On day 1 learn about colour, brushes, application methods to enable you to paint a realistic still life painting e.g. paint an apple that looks like an apple. On day 2 explore the basics of abstraction to create your own abstract painting. A great opportunity for beginners and those with some painting experience to refine skills and learn to explore new painting styles.

Materials List

Students will need to bring:-

  • Acrylic paints – Titanium white, Carbon black, Matisse Primary red, yellow and blue, Prussian blue, Pthalo green, Burnt Umber, Cadmium yellow medium and others you may like
  • Brushes – round, flat, filbert in nylon or bristle and a large flat brush (Westart Scholastic has a set of 6 useful nylon brushes)
  • Nylon house painting brushes might be useful
  • Mediums (if you have any)
  • Palette (e.g. ice cream container lid is fine or a pro wet palette – rectangular)
  • Palette knife or plasterers tool
  • Water jar
  • Masking tape (blue) from hardware store
  • 1 sheet of watercolour paper (250gsm)
  • 2 canvases – 1 x A4, 1 x A3 or bigger
