Oil Painting for Beginners – Developing Techniques

Learn how to work with this exciting medium. Gain an understanding of colour theory and how form and tone are developed. With plenty of demonstrations and tutor guidance students will work on a painting over six weeks.

What to bring:-

  • Canvas board or stretched canvas (approx. A3 size or smaller if you wish)
  • Oil paint-
    • Titanium White,
    • Cadmium Yellow,
    • Lemon Yellow,
    • Cadmium Red,
    • Permanent Rose,
    • Ultramarine,
    • Phthalo Blue,
    • Raw Umber, and
    • Ivory Black.
    • Optional Zinc White.
  • Brushes various sizes. Recommend at least size 1 and above.
  • Turps
  • Jar with lid
  • Mixing palette/board
  • Palette knife
  • Rags
  • Students can provide portrait photo if painting portrait.
  • Students can choose to work from life with still life objects or from photos.

COVID-19 Response:

FAC has implemented a number of cleaning and safety measures to ensure our students’ wellbeing. Social distancing will be observed in the studios and course content has been adapted to suit new safety guidelines. Hand sanitiser will be provided and studios will be thoroughly cleaned before and after each class.
