2017T2 Mould Making – Wheel Works

Be taken through this step-by-step process to make multiples of one object. Start by using the potter’s wheel to create forms, then cast them in plaster= to make a mould. Create objects in clay slip, adding decorative elements and coloured glazes to make each one unique.

Materials List

Students will need to bring:-

  • 1 x bag of smooth clay such as a porcelain or smooth stoneware (Potters Market)
  • Small spirit level
  • Clay modelling and/ or turning tools
  • Cutting wire
  • A potters knife
  • Small sponge
  • Paint scraper plastic
  • 15-20ltr lidded container to store work, at least 30Hx30Wx40L
  • Metal kidney tools
  • Hand cream
  • Kitchen timer
  • Surform or surshape shaver tool
  • 2 x hardiflex cement boards 35cmx35cm (or throwing bats)
  • Stanley knife
  • Notebook, pen
  • Towel
  • Apron
  • Texture tools (objects to press into clay for patterns)
  • Further materials may be required throughout the course
  • All ceramic work made in class can be fired by Fremantle Arts Centre for a small fee
  • Students must wear closed-toe shoes for safety reasons
  • Please pay your materials fee at the first class
