About the class

This course offers an introduction to landscape painting in acrylics, welcoming both beginners and more experienced painters. Over the course of six weeks, you'll learn how to use colour and light to bring your landscape scenes to life.

Through weekly demonstrations and exercises, you’ll explore different techniques, from brushwork to palette knives, and discover how texture, mediums, and composition can transform your work.

You'll learn how to paint a variety of landscape elements—clouds, distant hills, skies, trees, oceans, and more—while developing your own unique approach to capturing the natural world. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your skills, this course will guide you through each step in creating compelling and atmospheric landscape paintings.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course. It has is focused on beginners although all levels are welcome.

What to bring

• Paints:
  • Titanium white
  • Prussian blue
  • Cerulean blue
  • Burnt umber
  • Matisse primary yellow and red
  • Any other colours you like to use
• Brushes:
  • Tan Scholastic pack (five different brushes)
• Size 12 flat nylon brush (or 10mm wide)
• Other Materials:
  • Palette
  • Plastic jar
  • Rag
  • A couple of photocopies of landscape photos you've takens

Building Accessibility

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.
