Introduction to Printmaking (NEW!) with Bina Butcher

Want to learn the basics of a range of printmaking processes and get a taster of the possibilities in the field of print? This brand-new course is the one for you!

Join tutor Bina Butcher in FAC’s Print Studio and be introduced to the specialist equipment and materials involved in an array of printmaking processes. You will become familiar with processes such as monoprint, dry point etching, linoprint, solvent transfer and more, and you will learn how to mix processes to create layered, unique prints. You will also be encouraged to source recycled and found materials, incorporating what you find into the processes taught throughout the course. No prior print experience necessary, and you will have plenty of time to experiment and play!

Materials:-

  •  A materials fee is included in the cost of the course

What to bring:-

  • Notebook & pen
  • Apron
  • For Week 1: Any assorted recycled papers (magazines/old books), textured fabrics (mesh/lace), plant matter (leaves/small flowers), and stencils that you might have at home
  • Other items to bring along throughout the Term will be discussed ahead of class each wee
  • Standard quality paper is provided for printing, if students require specialist printmaking paper they will be required to source and purchase their own, this will be discussed in the first class
  • Students must wear appropriate clothing, closed-toe shoes and tie up long hair for safety reasons

Bina Butcher is a practicing artist based in Perth WA who has a focus on printmaking practices. Her workshops cover everything from printmaking basics such as monoprint, dry point etching, screen printing, embossing and woodcut; to more in-depth processes that can include chine cole', paper lithography, cyanotype, bookbinding and much more.
