Handbuilding Pots, Vessels, and Sculptural Forms with Dee Jaeger
About the class
Whether you're new to clay or returning after some time, this course will help you build your skills and confidence with handbuilding techniques. If you're an intermediate or advanced student, you can tailor the course to your own self-directed project.
In the first few classes, Dee will guide you through basic handbuilding skills, then you'll progress to more advanced techniques as you develop your own projects.
This course offers a great opportunity to create original pieces for your home or garden.
- Create a working sketch and project plan to track your progress
- Make test tiles to experiment with textures and surface treatments
- Learn to make your own decorative slip for joining pieces
- Explore maquettes and armatures for sculpture projects
At the end of the 8-week course, your final pieces will be fired. If you’d like, you can return for glazing session in Term 3. Alternatively, Dee will demonstrate cold firing techniques suitable for once-fired works, which can be applied at home or back with us in Term 3.
