About the class

Learn the fundamentals of oil painting in this course, where you'll progress from underpainting to finishing glazes.

Artist Stephanie Reisch will guide you through exercises designed to improve your skills and help you develop your own projects.

You’ll explore both traditional and contemporary techniques while building a strong foundation in oil painting.

What to bring

  • Oil paints: Basic – Titanium White, Lamp Black, Alizarin Crimson, Lemon Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna | Recommended – Titanium White, Lamp Black, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Alizarin Crimson, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Cadmium Red, Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue, Phthalo Green
  • Odourless solvent for cleanup 500ml
  • Disposable palette pad or wooden palette
  • Art Spectrum Painting Medium No.1 (100ml is fine)
  • Palette knife
  • A3 Art Spectrum or Canson Oil Paper Pad
  • Masking tape
  • Small glass jar with lid for storing medium
  • Cotton rags x 2
  • An old shirt or apron
  • Brushes: Recommended WestArt Series K Filbert 2 & 6, Nylon Flatheads – WestArt Purple Brush Set of 5

Born in Belgium and based in Perth, Stephanie Reisch is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, researcher and arts educator. Her practice references prehistory and natural phenomena through drawing, painting, sound and digital media.
