About the class

This course is perfect for those interested in urban sketching or creating a travel diary to capture the essence of your holidays. Go beyond just taking pictures on your next holiday or day trip.

Develop the skills to sit down and draw on location, providing a richer, more immersive experience that will bring your memories to life!

In the first two weeks, you’ll learn essential drawing techniques in the studio at FAC, before venturing out to iconic locations around Fremantle. Our first outing will be at Fisherman’s Wharf at Cicerello’s, where you can enjoy coffee, fish and chips, and sketching. Other destinations may include the Roundhouse, the Maritime Museum, and various other scenic spots, all chosen for their charm and atmosphere.

This course is designed for both beginners and those looking to enhance their drawing skills in a relaxed and creative environment.

What to bring
Materials for Day 1:

• Visual diary (to be used as a travel diary/sketchbook)
• Drawing pens: fine and medium pens
• Additional pens (Copic, watercolour brush pens, etc.)— These will be demonstrated and made available for participants to try out in the first session.
• Graphite pencil (4B, water-soluble if preferred)
• Eraser

Building Accessibility

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.
