About the class

Acrylics are a fantastic, versatile medium, perfect for beginners looking to dive into painting. In this course, you’ll learn how to overcome the challenge of a blank canvas and explore the full potential of acrylics with new exercises every week.

You’ll also gain a solid understanding of colour theory, colour mixing, and composition, all while building your confidence as a painter.

With Miles Carpenter’s friendly and kind teaching approach, you’ll receive supportive, step-by-step guidance that makes learning enjoyable and accessible for everyone. By the end of the course, you'll have completed a finished painting, showcasing all your newfound skills and techniques.

Prerequisites

Basic painting experience or a willingness to take on new challenges and develop your skills further. Suitable for students who want to refine their techniques and explore more advanced painting concepts.

What to bring

• Acrylic paints (artist quality) - Cadmium Red, Cadmium medium or Arylamide deep (warm) Yellow, Lemon or Light (cool) Yellow, French Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue, Quinacridone Magenta, Titanium White, Black

• A variety of brushes or set including small and large round and flat synthetic brushes (artist quality) *please note really cheap paints and brushes are much harder to paint with*

• Flat palette

• Palette knife

• Acrylic painting paper pad A3

• Water jar

• Cloth

• Canvas or primed board approximately 40cm x 40cm, and additional canvases and primed boards as needed

• Further materials may be required throughout the course

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.
