Use mark making and colour to explore movement in line, expression through colour and representational form. Techniques such as pattern, print and mark making will be explored with mixed mediums and a range of alternate approach:

- Mark making, drawing, colour mixing and mixed medium on paper

- Wet and dry medium

- Mixing medium, layering and alternate approaches

- Colour wheel

- Cool and warm colours

- Tone, shade and complimentary colours

- Relevant art references to the course

Casting With Colour

In this course we will explore the many different ways of using coloured slips in our studio moulds .
Using these moulds we then cast the forms exploring the application of colour to our vessels. Colour can be applied in a number of different ways both in and out of the mould. Techniques to be explored are in mould painting, pouring, splashing, layering colour, marbling and slip trailing. You will also be shown how to prepare and mix colours into our casting slips.

Learn the art of lost wax casting, creating miniature sculptural works in metal. Cast small–scale forms in new or recycled metal using a simple vacuum method and learn how to make them into wearable treasures. This is a great class on its own or linked with one of FAC’s other jewellery courses.

This course caters for all levels on the wheel and for those who prefer handbuilding. Lessons will be taught in throwing, making identical pieces and improving general skill levels.

Garden Pots

Learn handbuilding techniques to create ceramic treasures for your own garden including water basins, fountains, urns, pots, hanging planters and more. Using terracotta style clays learn about coiling, hand modelling and sprig mould making. Surface decoration techniques will also be taught and explored in cluding glaze techniques, aged surface treatments and an introduction into non-fired surface effects.

Handbuilding a Dinner Set in Clay

During this 6 week hand building course, students will learn a number of foundational hand building techniques to create functional flatware and vessels. Each student will learn the process to create templates allowing them to remake their pieces to create a set of wares. Each dinner set will be customised using underglazes, clay manipulation techniques or decorative slip patterns.
