Jewellery: Metal Casting (Night)

Learn the art of lost wax casting, creating miniature sculptural works in metal. Cast small–scale forms in new or recycled metal using a simple vacuum method and learn how to make them into wearable treasures. This is a great class on its own or linked with one of FAC’s other jewellery courses.

Learn traditional jewellery making techniques with a twist to create your own contemporary piece of jewellery. Students will be encouraged to steep outside the box and push traditional ideals of jewellery but still make quality pieces, and be shown alternate ways to create a design. This course will also cover the techniques of jewellery making, and how to use the equipment in the jewellery studio safely and competently.

Sand casting, or delft clay casting is an ancient technique that can be used to create unique jewellery pieces. Cast a design of your own or cast organic pieces in silver or other precious metals. Certain precious gem stones such as diamonds and sapphires can be cast in place when making.

Puzzle Inlay Workshop: Married Metals and Metal Inlay

This workshop is suitable for those students with some prior knowledge of jewellery making. Design and fabricate a wearable piece incorporating either married metal and or metal inlay techniques using different metals. Depending on time and skill level, students can also incorporate a hinged component in their final piece. Brooches, earring and or pendants are suitable for these techniques.
