Drawing & Beyond is a contemporary mixed media drawing course that offers individuals with some basic skills an opportunity to build on their current understanding of what drawing is and what it can be. Participants will learn to observe and develop expression in their work, explore mark making, tackle small and large-scale compositions as well as experiment with a range of wet and dry media in response to weekly themes. There will be plenty of inspiring artist references as well as opportunities to discuss ideas and develop concepts in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Illustration and Character Development

New tutor Maggie Johnson presents an exciting new class using a variety of mediums to develop and illustrate characters over a series of explorative workshops. From sketching, to watercolour painting, to completed illustrative works, this workshop informed by art therapy techniques is somewhat directed but also allows for individuals to make their own choices within the class. Both fluid and resistive materials are used so students make personal discoveries about their abilities and preferences for creating.

This course begins at 3:30pm - high school students are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Manga Illustration

In this course, students will learn all the tricks to draw manga. From the very basics, such as how to draw a manga head and a manga body, to the more advanced techniques such as how to draw hands and feet, facial expressions, hair etc…

Students will also have the chance, starting from week 3, to learn how to create a manga comic book, starting from how to create the storyboard to the final pages.

Students will also be able to take home from this course all of the drawings they have done, plus a folder where they can keep all the drawing they have done during this course.

Week 1: how to draw a manga face (front face, and ¾ face) and front body

Week 2: how to draw a side face, facial expressions, and clothes

Week 3: how to create a manga story and manga characters for the story

Week 4 and 5: how to draw the final pages for the manga book

Week 6: how to draw the manga book cover

This course begins at 3:30pm - high school students are welcome and encouraged to attend!
