Stall: Prints by Bow
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you’ll be selling?
My name is Kathryn, I’m a Graphic Designer born and raised in Fremantle. I run a label, Prints By Bow, a collection of high-end art prints of well known local landmarks. In addition to my prints, I also offer greeting cards, homewares, such as coasters, and an assortment of handprinted textile products.
How do you make the works?
My products embody a strong sense of nostalgia and WA pride, as I endeavour to capture the scenes that I’ve grown up around. All products are designed by me and printed/manufactured locally.
When creating a new print I take a photo of the landmark as a reference point to accurately capture details in the landscape. Countless hours are put into my illustrations, which is evident in the final piece. Each brick, tile and line must be individually and carefully placed. Bold colours are used to enhance the vibrancy of the landmarks.
Why is it important to support local makers?
When you support local makers you’re helping a community of artisans continue to create unique, high-quality products that they are truly passionate about. Buying from a local maker also ensures that the gift-giving process is a more personal and thoughtful experience.
What’s your top gift tip this Christmas?
When buying from a local maker be sure to ask questions about the products you’re interested in. Artists can offer insight and details on how the item is made. Plus the story and process behind the piece creates an emotional connection and bring the piece to life.
