The Bon Scott Project is an arts project celebrating the life and legacy of the WA rock icon through the work of specially selected first-rate artists. The Bon Scott Project is not intended as an esoteric exercise in contemporary art but is a multi-faceted, open-hearted consideration of Bon Scott’s enduring good natured, larrikin appeal to each new generation.
In choosing a popular “everyman” figure like Bon, the Project also challenges a wide-spread public assumption that contemporary art is incomprehensible or somehow removed from day-to-day life. And, like all interesting arts projects, The Bon Scott Project is a story about us, the community, as much as a story about Bon, the person and musician.
The Bon Scott Project has only been possible through the continuing support of the State Government through the Department of Culture and the Arts but also through project funding from the Federal Government agency, the Australia Council, as well as the Gordon Darling Foundation.
We are also really pleased to continue our partnership with Fotofreo by being a major exhibition and project space. Fotofreo, the bi-annual City of Fremantle Festival of Photography, is building an international reputation as one of the best photography events of its kind and showcases Fremantle as a great location for a world-class arts event.
I hope you visit and enjoy this season at Fremantle Arts Centre.
